My dream as a child was to transform my fat, ugly body in a strong, athletic one. It took me a long time to realize that this will not happen if I spend most of my days in front of the computer and on the couch. I looked bad and felt even worse. It was high time to take action – I was 14 years old and I weighed almost 100 kg (160 cm height) and I had prediabetes. I realized the hard way that in our modern society it is not easy to grow up as an obese teenager. I was full of motivation to change my eating habits and start exercising. I first started training with my bodyweight at home and then I proceeded to gym training.
But don’t be fooled. Change did not come overnight. Diets and starvation worked at first but it wasn’t long before my progress came to a halt. Each time I finished with my next diet I regained much of my weight back. For more than two years I tried all sorts of approaches and listened to the opinions of all sorts of professionals and fitness enthusiasts but I never achieved optimum results. Although I was able to lose 25 kilograms, I looked terrible. I was skinny fat. I didn’t burn the fat - I burned my muscles!
It was then when I stopped listening to anyone else. I had this feeling that I was missing an essential piece of the puzzle. I knew I was close but I did not have the necessary information. Most of the diets and workouts on the internet promised instant results, but the truth is that they were not tailored to my body type, metabolism and individual characteristics.
Over the next couple of few years I began reading scientific literature and compared different points of view on training, nutrition and body transformation. I talked to natural bodybuilders, fitness models and nutritionists and experimented with different workout programs and nutrition plans.
The results were starting to show. Once I corrected the mistakes in my training and diet, I was able to truly transform my body. I realized that this was the reason I came into this world and I started to create quality diet and exercise programs for myself.
My professional career
I started working as a model, but quickly realized it was not my thing and I stopped. Then I enrolled and completed the Fitness and Bodybuilding course at the Bulgarian Sports Academy. I learned a lot about nutrition, training and the structure and function of the human body.
But this was not enough. My goal was (and still is!) to continuously improve myself and provide my clients with latest info in the field of fitness and sports nutrition. I continued to read science literature, I learned new and different approaches that motivated me to be innovative at my work. I have spent countless hours working with client of all ages and fitness levels. Over the years I managed to create a variety of fitness programs tailored to the individual characteristics of each customer. In addition to this, my personal blog Fitbg.net currently attracts over 150,000 visitors per month from over 170 countries worldwide.
I'm here to help
Looking at it now, I can say that my transformation has been a painful process of trial and error. I had the will and desire to change, but I did not have the right information on how to eat and train. During my practice as a personal fitness trainer I had the privilege of working with thousands of people and I noticed that most of them have not only a weight problem – they lack the right mentality for change. If you don’t believe deep inside you that change is possible, it will never happen.
